Nice, so is it true that edonkey is ALOT slower than BT? What is the norm speeds on eDonkey? So the lite version is free of adware and spyware correct?

yes i do edk lite myself and its clean.

as for speed as you know that depends on teh sources, with popular files the speed should be the same but other things might be different.

however yes, bittorrent is suppose to be faster then ed2k network.

however edklite is faster then emule because edonkey does not follow the credit system of emule.

in emule your speed depends on your credits and your credits come only from people you upload to that you are downloading from, your other uploads don't count.

edonkey does not follow that rule. instead what you upload counts no matter what and its has horde, instead of the credit system


having said all that, i never think its a good idea to compare networks like that, since each has its own pros and cons.

Ok so eDonkey has a credit system also, but it counts to anyone you upload to instal of the person you are d/ling to? Say I dont upload often becuase the files I share arent popular. Will I get slow speeds?

no you will not get slow speeds. with edonkey your speeds depends on the number of sources for that file.

The credit system in eMule is very similar to old school FTP upload/download ratio except in this case it is just a modifier for your position in que to download a file, it cant really alter your overall speed other then giving you access to less peers and longer waits in que.

in short you will get the file with edonkey while emule you are waiting to download.

that is a killer. if you gonna have a credit system then you better give me credit for what i upload period, otherwise forget it. why should i wait in line when i upload more then others?

So what's this on it about edonkey pro? If I go to configure my options there's an edonkey pro panel and I'm user "oh no, not you again!" and there's a password.

Also, the first thing it tried to do when I started up was connect to Overpeer. I clicked ignore so it's not supposed to connect tot hem again, but it worried me a bit. Pg doesn't like Overpeer.

What is Horde?
Horde is the process of teaming multiple downloaders of the same file together, to work towards the common goal of completing the file.


How does Horde work?
When you start downloading a file at 'Highest' priority, the horde system is enabled for that download. Your client will seek out the Horde of users downloading that same file and attempt to partner with four of them. Partnered clients are highlighted with in yellow around the progress bar. Your client will seek to partner with the remote clients who upload to you the fastest.

What does being a partner mean?
Partners have two advantages over regular clients; partners don't wait in queue, partners never stop transferring (usually a single chunk is sent, then another user gets a turn). So between partners there is a constant stream of data.

How can I get the most out of Horde?
Remember, each client is always seeking to partner with remote clients who can upload the fastest, as such, the faster you can upload, the faster partners you can attract.

remember that the rule applies to the file that you give "highest" priority

open pref.xml with notepad, look for this text:"<ConSvcOpt_You>", the first letter or number you see after that text delete it.

now save it.

open edonkey lite and it should work.

if you have the sources you should max it, but i don't think you will find it as fast as bt every time.

but searching and finding stuff is lots easier plus corruption protection

I told me it needed to connect to Overpeer for some reason, but it wouldn't again if I clicked ignore. And PG was blocking Overpeer when it tried that. So I don't know.

I don't know, man, I'm just telling you what it said. That could be the fasttrack plugin for all I know. I can't see where it tells you what networks it's curently connected to.

ftp support and etc is also available but i did not include them.

My problem is that eDonkey then shuts down for no reason. I have not been able to keep it going for more that 10 minutes, usually about 3 minutes and it will shut. This doesn't seem to be an error, there is no message or Windows problem ( I am using WIN XP ) it seems to just close itself. I can re-start by clicking the icon and it remembers changes I made in the three minutes of uptime. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

I had the same problem but with edonkey2000, when i go into pref.xml there is no letter or number immediately after "<ConSvcOpt_You>"....What can I do????? it only started about 2 days ago, and worked fine before.

All you have to do is the above mentioned method of deleting the first letter or number after "<ConSvcOpt_You>". That's all you have to do & save the file back in its place(eDonkey folder). I've had to do this myself 3 or 4 times.

its something else...I deleted the first letter and its still doing it...I really appreciate your help though. If you know any other cause with possible solution, please suggest it. Thank you soo much

Dear MUSCLEMAN

The solution u mentioned for solving the shut down problem, bij deleting the first letter or digit, doesn't work always i'm afraid, I try it all the day and some times it works for some hours but eventualy it shuts down, I even installed it fresh but it still doing crazy.

Please don't u have some other solution for us, we r all waiting :-)

guys it does work, just besure to leave your user name in the options anything other then edonkey lite and besure edonkey is not running in the background while editing the pref.xml.

if after all that you still have this problem then close edklite, empty your temp folder and then reboot edklite.
