Disconnected?

I just started using eDonkey2000 a couple days ago. I like the interface & how it works. The only problem is that after being online(connected) for a few minutes I get disconnected(program closes totally). It's like I'm the one closing out the program totally from the destop. This didn't happen to me yesterday while just playing around with the program for the first time. It's done it each time today that I tried to search for some files. I noticed that one file in particular gave the fake file warning after clicking on it for transfer. Not long after this is when the disconnect & closing of the program started. What's going on with this guys? :pissed3:

I can't say since i dont use the network but i extremely recommend Emule over Edonkey. Try that open source app first as it seems to be an improved client because the developers found that app ineffective.

I will not use eMule anymore. I had that infringement case back in Febuary so I really won't to avoid it altogether. I know eMule & eDonkey are connected but I just wanna avoid eMule due to my infringement plus all the fake file servers going on with eMule. I know from the previous forums there was one thread in particular due to "fake file servers" & this type stuff was being reported all the time. I don't know how things are going now with these fake file servers but that along with my infringement case then it makes me just wanna stay away from Emule even though it's always been my favorite p2p program.

They're the same network though. You just need to find a more reliable ed2k link site.

I'm using the version(link) that was provided here on the eDonkey subforum! I noticed when I first run the program the connection was almost immediate. Ever since then I get the flashing message of "Connecting" for a good 2-3 minutes before it finally connects to the "Online" message. I don't know what the problem is but the last 3 times I've tried to run the program it's kicking me off after a couple minutes. :-(

Well, as of right now I've used(opened) the program about 5 times. The first time everything went well including the connecting part. The last 4 times has been different each time. 2 times the "Connecting" message from the top just flashed for quite a few minutes & finally gave the "Online" message. When I tried to search for files then after the results the program just automatically closed itself out completely. The next couple times it's been hanging on "Connecting" but I'm getting search results nevertheless. It's just happened different nearly every time I've used the program so far. I've not been able to be connected the last 2 times but I still get results from the search feature & it's still closing itself out each time I open the program though. :-@

I'm getting this message when opening eDonkey too! I've been clicking on the "ignore" tab at the bottom of the message page. Here's the picture of the message in which some probably already know about.

this is metamachine's way of trying to block us, please follow the below steps.

after that when you open it you might get the connection thing again if so choose option to download, if it does not let me know then you need to put your ip in the options>advance section


go to start>my computer>C: drive>program files>edonkey lite 1.4.3.2>here you find a file called pref.xml

open pref.xml with notepad, look for this text:"<ConSvcOpt_You>", the first letter or number you see after that text delete it.

now save it.

open edonkey lite and it should work.

So you're saying to delete the very first letter-number after that string? My first was letter B so I deleted that letter & saved the file back. There is a string of letters-numbers after <ConSvcOpt_You> so it's just the very first letter-number after that? Thanks!

After doing the above suggestions the program still didn't work. I deleted the letter after the above mentioned text>saved file. Opened eDonkey & get the "Can't Connect To Overnet" message. I tried the "ignore" button & also the other button option. I get the "Offline" option when clicking ignore & the "Can't Connect To Overnet" message when clicking the other option. Any more suggestions? I'd really like to try & test out eDonkey.

Things are working now on the connection end. This was working before your recent post. I do have a couple questions concerning eDonkey's interface. There is 2 different sides from the top control panel. One for the settings,option,etc. & the other for the online(help,etc.). You have either "Offline" or Online" on both sides. I have "Offline" on the left side & "Online" on the right side. Before deleting the letter I had "Online" message from each side of the control panel. Are both sides supposed to say "Online"? I did some file searching & tried some results & the transfers were taking place at pretty good speeds(4k/b up to 25k/b) so I'm connected but what about the issue of each side of the control panel not matching with "Online" message? Thanks! :-P

you need to close edonkey and make sure its off. then put in the contact.dat i gave you. then start edonkey lite again, overnet (left side) will try to connect then it should be able to do it.

Thanks! Wonder why I was actually getting transfers when the left side wasn't connected? I had tested 3 files & all three were going at a pretty good rate even though the program wasn't connected. I'll try again later with your contact.dat file that you nicely provided. Thanks again!

np, remember, that it was connected to the ed2k network and you were connected to the servers and that is how you could get files and etc.

you see you got 2 networks on the app alone, overnet and edonkey

now you were not connected to overnet, but you were connected to edonkey (ed2k)

I really like this eDonkey version! I'm getting speeds that absolutely can't match any other program I've used so far. We have high-speed internet but I can say that the fastest speed I've witnessed with any other including eMule is about 30kb/s. I'm getting speeds of up to 60-70kb/s. There is one new problem though with the program since I changed that value. After running for a while I'm getting the error message "eDonkey Has Encountered a Problem & Needs to Close" in which we all with Windows has seen at some point. This also was a problem with PG at one time on my end so there is some type problem somewhere. Any more suggestions Muscleman? Thanks!

ok if its closing with an error like that,, most likely you got a corrupt file in your temp folder.

as for pg crashing also, i'm having the same problem.

to find the corrupt file, you can empty your temp folder and put the folder back in one by one then restart edk lite to see which one brings back the crashing.

how many files are you sharing?

I'll try your above suggestion! What does the amount of sharing of files have to do with? I only have a few files sharing right now because I removed quite a few back a couple months ago. The PG problem is probably having to do with a block somewhere in your blocklist. That's what my problem was back a few months ago. I was surfing some sites & the blocking was occurring & I was trying to "allow" certain blocks from the blocklist. I wasn't waiting for the page to fully load before "allowing" & this was causing the error message. However,this hasn't happened with the last 4 or 5 PG2 betas. Thanks!

What's the deal with this file in the eDonkey folder? It has no info in the text file but it's self-explanatory.

Don't Mess With TEMP Files!!!!.txt is in the program folder but nothing in the file itself? What's this crap?

Look in your eDonkey temp folder. There is this file called "Don't Mess With The Temps!!!!.txt". Why did they put this file in there? It's of no use except to say what it does & there isn't any information inside this file(0kb). I assume this file was in the program d/l,right?
Wait a minute! This is in my Temp folder so how did this file get in there? :-P

All is well now Muscleman after just removing all my TEMP files from the folder. There was one file that was listed as a possible "fake" even though it had the most resources. This could've been the problem but since I only had a few TEMP files I just removed the entire contents inside my TEMP folder. I love this program due to mainly speeds(sources). I've been using Bearshare as my main p2p program since April but I think I've found another. The only thing that really worries me is the popularity of eDonkey & along with eMule(former favorite p2p) there is a greater chance of an infringement case than using a program like Bearshare or some other less known p2p application(ANTS,ARES,etc.). I do know however that I'm much safer with this great program these guys here provide(thanks PG). :up:

well to be honest with you no matter what p2p you use there is no safety, personally i dont' think bearshare or any other p2p that is that popular is safe.

if you want to have the best chance of not getting caught, do yourself a favor and never think you are safe, any time you think you are safe is exactly when you letting your gaurd down.

now we have blocked the usa servers that i know of, (i check every week and if there is an update i will update the blacklist), and that is better then all the nomal users that are connected to the fake razorback and sonnyboy and etc.

What are the KNOWN safe servers to connect to in eDonkey? I always look thru the lists when connecting to a server but really don't know a for sure safe server in which to connect. I know about the fake Razorback & Sonnyboy but are there any others to totally avoid? Are you involved in the blacklist? It sounds that way to me so are you placing the updated blacklists into eDonkey yourself or are you going to provide them here on the forums? Thanks!

Hey MUSCLEMAN! Are you saying that we need to go to the link above for updating the blacklist in eDonkey or are you saying there is a feature with eDonkey open in order to update the blacklist? I have seen the "blacklist" option for viewing & adding IP ranges but is there a place to actually get an updated blacklist while eDonkey is open? Thanks for your time & nice updating! I've used the link to get the blacklist but I don't see anywhere from that page about when the file is updated so we know if it's outdated or not. The file extracts to the eDonkeyLite folder but the file has the same name each time so how do we tell about the date of the updated blacklist file? Thanks! ;-)

i have to update those manually, which is a pain because that format does not do ip ranges which mean i have add those one by one.

the link i gave is a self extractor that has a blacklist inside which you just extract to your edonkey lite folder and replace the one you have.

inside the app itself you can't update from a site or anything, that is in the core of the app.

i will work on adding a date to the name of the file so you guys would know if its out of date.

How's things coming on that date file for the blacklist in eDonkey MUSCLEMAN? It's hard to d/l that file each time to be extra safe & there is no date for the blacklist. You have to just extract it every time & see the date(s) for replacing but it would certainly be nice to have a date to go by to see if the file is needed since the last install. Thanks!

Thanks for the date addon to the file! It really makes it easier now because you don't have to actually extract the file to see if it needs replacing. Nice work! :up:
