Post Immediate action required, European Copyright Directive needs to be opposed.

Quote:
thanks to jre for drawing my attention to this matter.

The European Parliament is about to vote on the IPRED2, the Second Intellectual Property Enforcement Directive.
If IPRED2 passes in its current form, "aiding, abetting, or inciting" copyright infringement on a "commercial scale" in the EU will become a crime.
Penalties for these brand new copycrimes will include permanent bans on doing business, seizure of assets, criminal records, and fines of up to €100,000.
IPRED2's backers say these copycrimes are meant only for professional criminals selling fake merchandise. But Europe already has laws against these fraudsters. With many terms in IPRED2 left unclear or completely undefined - including "commercial scale" and "incitement" - IPRED2 will expand police authority and make suspects out of legitimate consumers and businesses, slowing innovation and limiting your digital rights.

If you live in the E.U., please, visit http://www.copycrime.eu/ .
They have instructions on how to Contact your member of parliament, and they also put up a petition. please sign it.

Try using the courts when they do something thats incorrect.
Remember lawyers dont get bought off through lobbying, instead they offer them political careers with promises of lobbying.
As for the petition,in my belief,it is a rare bird that even acknowledges them anymore. When i was in Mexico,i lived for a while with the people that own fair portions of the U.S. goverment. Its done with shrewd lobbying. The reason they live in mexico is they're money is worth 4x more.Of course they're still citizens with property and holdings in the U.S but in Mexico they have 4x more for thier money.
When i was training with my peers in the dojo,i learned often times the truest solutions to matters of political affairs are the hope of accidentall and unexplainable deceases.
Reasons like this is probably why my SenSai's father was thrown out of China, the land of his birthright.

Sincerely

Remember..Remember the 5th of November, the gunpowder treason and plot,i know of no reason, why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot...........

Last time I think it was rejected by the Parliament. I just had a look at http://www.copycrime.eu:
Currently it's still a draft. But the European Court has generally allowed to make such legislation by the EU. (If you don't know the EU: All it's member states are souvereign, so the EU can't simply dictate everything. This is only possible if there are treaties allowing this).
It was at the Council again on December 6th, no idea what they decided.

greets
jre

EDIT: 2007-12-31: Correction, the parliament already voted yes, the court seems to have no objections, so it's up to the Council now.

Another example of multinats and big "supercitizens" pressuring government.

I find it interesting that productive artists do not push this, but their fractional partners like agents do.

Just like the laws putting more of us in prison then australia has population - which an open-door site that tracks political donations demonstrates are due to financial donations and pressure groups funded by:

Insurance companies
Guard and Police Union PACs
Uniform Makers, bar and lock makers lights, chrome unbreakable toilets etc etc ad nauseum

Please- think of the kids. We are all under a pall of suspicion and fear that is just a miss of old-media crap. The law is the Bill of Rights - and if you want secure CODE, read THAT.

Sad but true, time to push the SHINY RED BUTTON.

I'm staying home April 15. But I feel that due to you guys, the net - and the power of REAL DANGER and REAL STARVATION over decades of false promises, half truths and fear.... the liberty 2.0 thing is going global.

Good - I have kids.

Besides - I'm a trend analyst and activist, an old one. Geeks get laid when this stuff happens - mark my words - it's coded into our GENES
