Re: blockcontrol, previously moblock-control
Hello Everyone
I have the same problem of the previous user; the output message that I get is:
I installed moblock trough synaptic on ubuntu 8.10 intrepid.
Code:
Preconfiguring packages ...
Selecting previously deselected package moblock.
(Reading database ... 169294 files and directories currently installed.)

If any blocklists are missing, they will be downloaded. This may take several
minutes. Please be patient and don't abort. If you want to follow the update
process, then do in another terminal a
tail -f /var/log/blockcontrol.log
The lists are saved to /var/spool/blockcontrol/.
The installation of blockcontrol will fail, if starting MoBlock fails. If this
happens, then in most cases downloading the blocklists failed temporarily. To
workaround this, you can turn the automatic starting of MoBlock off by setting
in /etc/blockcontrol/blockcontrol.conf:

No, that's another error, something goes wrong with inserting the iptables rules during "blockcontrol start".
Please post your /var/log/blockcontrol.log and "sudo blockcontrol status".
And please have a look at my signature: post this stuff in CODE tags.

This seems to be the problem. I guess you added "255.255.255.0" at the wrong place.
Please send "blockcontrol show_config"
Also check your /etcblockcontrol/allow.p2p and /etc/blockcontrol/iptables-custom-insert.sh, but I doubt the error is there.
Alternatively it might be that some automatic whitelisting goes wrong. In that case you should try setting WHITE_LOCAL="0" in /etc/blockcontrol/blockcontrol.conf. But I doubt that this is necessary.

I don't recall to have added any address 255.255.255.0 o something closer to that. Basically I have the same problem of this guy: http://forums.phoenixlabs.org/showthread.php?t=18044
All the time that I boot the pc moblock is on. Then, wehn I try to restart it I get this problem that I showing you.
(I checked in the files that you suggested, but there aren't any direct referement to this problem or ip address).
I just found, doing an upgrade, that the system give me back tis error:
E: blockcontrol: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 8
E: moblock-control: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: mobloquer: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: mobloquer-dbg: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
in addition, even if moblock start and work when I boot my computer, I cannot surf internet (and I did the modification in the moblock.conf)

Re: blockcontrol, previously moblock-control
Then somethng with the automatic whitelisting is going wrong. Set WHITE_LOCAL="0" in /etc/blockcontrol/blockcontrol.conf and do a "sudo blockcontrol restart".
For analysis please post the output of "sudo ifconfig" (please in CODE tags)

Good to hear. But I'd like to fix the problem, therefore please send me the output of "sudo ifconfig". If there are any privacy issues you can change numbers to Xs. But I'd need the exact formatting.
On which system/distribution are you?

Re: blockcontrol, previously moblock-control
If it helps anyone, I was getting the same error, "blockcontrol: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 8", and managed to solve it by simply disabling my firewalls (router and firestarter.)

Please post your /var/log/blockcontrol.log and "sudo blockcontrol status".
And please have a look at my signature: post this stuff in CODE tags.

Thanks.
I'd really be happy to hear exactly what problems existed. It would be useful to see the complete output of the installation process and the part of /var/log/blockcontrol.log which relates to the installation.
Did you have any special configuration for blockcontrol?
Did you have any entries in firestarter which relate to blockcontrol?
What do you mean with "router"? Separate hardware or some routing software on your computer?
BTW: Exit status 8 means that something with the iptables rules went wrong. But there are tons of possible explanation, so it doesn't need to be the same problem for all you guys.
