Privacy conern: Is Gmail safe to use?

I don't know if it's safe, but Gmail is too creepy for me to use it for important email.

But then again I don't trust Google ether, after reading the Google Watch website.

I make sure to Anonymize Google's cookie on every machine I use.

Well a fellow PL member told me that if i value privacy to stop using gmail. He said go to google-watch.org

Even with the percautions such as using http://www.imilly.com/google-cookie.htm#googleanon & http://www.customizegoogle.com/
the person is still saying don't use gmail. What do you guys suggest?

The way I see it, I'm not conducting/discussing any illegal activities (while using my gmail account) and so gmail is welcome to read through my mundane life activities if they're interested. I could care less about privacy.

So it depends on your stance on privacy, whether or not to use gmail.

It depends on what you are talking about. I only use it for simple emails that any smuck could read and get absolutely nothing out of them.

Now, I wouldn't use gmail for sending confidential information.

I'm referring to just sending jpeg's to have a friend make wallpapers out of them and then sending it back. No illegal activities at all using gmail.
