File Sharing XS Project Status?
Greetings..
I'm somewhat new here, but after seeing some of the hoopla about FSXS and also the fact that it appears dead, I was prompted to drop a little note.
Is anything going on with the project? Is it still even slated to be worked on at some point or has the developer abandoned it?
Just in case a little fire under the arse could get the developer going again I would like to post what *I* and some of the people I associate with, and most likely the entire SCENE would probably like to see in a "revamped" FSXS.
Some of these may be redundant - but since I've not been able to experience the last iteration of FSXS forgive me.
1. Encrypted Everything: Encrypt chats, PM's, file xfers (optional), and all contents that are program related (address books, hub lists, username/passwords, etc) on the clients hard disk.
2. Swarm Transfers: I believe this was already in place - and I don't really think an explaination is needed here.
3. Darknet or Hub Based: Allow FSXS to run in two different modes. The "Darknet" mode would work similar to WASTE where you would simply connect to others via IP address, or possibly via a hash of an IP address. The Hub Based would work by allowing people to point their FSXS client at a tracker, and then connect to servers listed by the tracker from there.
4. Activities: File Sharing (duh!), a public chat system for all users connected, a PM system for private chat, and a messaging system similar to an old school BBS software where messages could be posted, replied to, etc... The "bbs" feature would most likely only work in "Darknet" mode as it would be difficult syncronizing all users in hub mode. Once again, whoever was hosting the FSXS server would be holding the BBS messages and they MUST be encrypted.
5. Auto Update System: Sort of goes without saying - but its certainly imperative that an auto update system be included so that clients, servers, and trackers could all get software updates automatically.
Obviously this list is pretty short - but I think the world could use another "Filetopia", "Waste", "Qnext", or KDX type client server app... Especially one that used strong encryption (higher than 128 bit).
Im sure there are some out there who would rather not deal with some of the features or the slow downs due to encryption.. But would assume there are some out there who understand what I'm asking for and agree.
Well?
