BITTORENT AND µTORRENT/Some IPs Blocked in Sourceforge p2p/BT's Level 1 list
***BITTORENT AND µTORRENT HAVE MERGED/Some IPs Are Now Blocked in Sourceforge p2p/BT's Level 1 list***
If you are having trouble with either of these p2p apps it may be because Bluetack has decided to block both in their Level 1 list (which is the same list as our Sourceforge p2p list). After polling the members at BT, the results were an overwhelming "Block them in Level 1".
You can read this thread at BT for comments/reasons why:
http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/ind...=0&#entry77182
You now have a choice to make.
1. Stop using Bittorent/µTorrent.
2. Permanently Allow the IPs/ IP Ranges that may be blocked as they appear in the PG2 Protection Window.
If you choose Option 2, please remember that there are serious questions (especially now) as to the safety (yours) when using either of these p2p apps.
Now is the time to do your homework to find out all you can about these two apps and the current situation. Please base your decision on Facts rather than Hearsay as you decide (for yourself) whether or not they are safe to use. Remember that Google/Wiki are our friends, USE THEM.
Most of the IPs blocked at BT are already in the Sourceforge p2p/BT Level 1 list, but some are going to BT's Level 3 list. These IPs will be fined-tuned over time.
The IPs that BT has blocked and will block in the future WILL NOT make µTorrent useless. They will block maybe DHT (which I feel should be turned off anyway), feedback to the µTorrent Servers for development purposes, and sites they own.
I think all should take a look at these links to four threads here at Phoenix labs:

Utorrent not running, firewall shows uploading
There have been serious concerns (for some people) about using µTorrent since the Peer Factor thing happened (Google/Wiki for info on this) plus the fact that the app is closed source. Now that ludde (µTorrent dev) has sold out to Bittorent, the question becomes, Why can't µTorrent be open source now, What are they hiding?
Keep up with the first link I posted (Poll at BT) for more info.
Please confine any comments on this subject to this thread.
Thanks,

tony, I think getting another p2p client would be a wise move on your part.
Glad you are considering it. It may be difficult using either of these apps with some of the IPs blocked by BT.

Re: BITTORENT AND µTORRENT/Some IPs Blocked in Sourceforge p2p/BT's Level 1 list
I have updated my original post in this thread. This new post better reflects what is going on with the Bittorrent/µTorrent blocks at Bluetack. Take the time, now, to go back and read it. I have included four links to threads here at PL that all should read.
This basically sums it up:
Most of the IPs blocked at BT are already in the Sourceforge p2p/BT Level 1 list, but some are going to BT's Level 3 list. These IPs will be fined-tuned over time.
The IPs that BT has blocked and will block in the future WILL NOT make µTorrent useless. They will block maybe DHT (which I feel should be turned off anyway), feedback to the µTorrent Servers for development purposes, and sites they own.
Those of you that will still use µTorrent may not see many problems at all. So, again, do your homework, find out the Facts, and decide for yourself whether or not you might be jeopardizing your safety if you use µTorrent.
I have pruned this thread, taking out posts that were in response to my original post (before I modified it).
@cormega12--I removed your post inquiring why the blocklists weren't updating/my answer, also. It didn't belong in this thread.
I am opening this thread again, but please only make comments that are relevant to this topic. Because of the importance of this thread, any frivolous remarks/Off-topic posts will be deleted.
Thanks,

Re: BITTORENT AND µTORRENT/Some IPs Blocked in Sourceforge p2p/BT's Level 1 list
After sniffing a bit on http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/ind...ic=16009&st=30, and reading several dozens of post, in which merbers or admins were doing nothing other than bragging about and/or sucking up to azures or utorrent, I still don't really got a clear picture which client is better to use(in aspects of security and dl speed). Nobody came with a client that should be use, all the topic seemed to be a battle between fans of utorrent(which has its questions about security that may be or not be the case) and azures(which from my experience, is a slow moving hog). I'm not keen on neither of them, I'm looking for a client that could provide me max use of my 1mbit pipe. Sorry Pepsi One, but only googling and reading several post on the subject(many are completely off it), in order for us newbies to make a somesort of ideea on the issue, doesn't quite cover it :|

Re: BITTORENT AND µTORRENT/Some IPs Blocked in Sourceforge p2p/BT's Level 1 list
DERVU, your question has no fixed answer, since there is no "ultimate" open source client:
azureus = resource hog, but otherwise best, utorrent = sold its ass, otherwise a little worse than azureus, bitcomet - somewhere between the two + blocked in on some trackers, halite - in development, but seems to work, very light, arctic - no dht, minimalistic, sharktorrent - about the same as arctic (has upnp), more up to date - this is pretty much what you can choose from amongst bt clients. Of them open source are halite, azureus, arctic, sharktorrent.

Re: BITTORENT AND µTORRENT/Some IPs Blocked in Sourceforge p2p/BT's Level 1 list
Yeah well what the crew at utorrent done really sucks. It makes you wonder if they started at first for the sheare pleasure of providing the masses a way to enjoy some of life's pleasures like a good movie or chair-binding game without having to sweat like a sclave for money, that goes to ever more hungry companies(be them of any sort and nationality), or just for the money that came from the very people they sad they were working against. Unfortunately utorrent(in my opinion), was a more than satisfying client. I can overlook the nasty habit of azures(beeing a great resource hog), due to the fact that my sistem can support it. But, i have a problem with it that goes beyond simple irritation. The dl rate tends to mimic a game of pong, once being exasperating low, once jumping to max, and back, this happening several times per minute, without any logical reason I could think of.The time it is stable is quite rare, but it does occur. It might be due to the fact that I'm behind a rooter, I'm not quite sure if this is what affects it. If someone could sugest a way to remediate it, or has even the slightest ideea what is the problem, i would greately aprreciate it. Oh and I din't had this problem when using utorrent, another aspect that makes me wonder why I get it now.(I know it's a bit off topic, and I appoliges for that)
