Thumbs up Re: PeerGuadian 2 for Windows Vista beta released

When I first installed it on Vista x64, it loaded fine, but i cannot see the icon in System Tray. I then killed the process in Task Manager, and then was not able to re-launch PG2.

I restarted Vista x64 and it stated that PG2 is blocked from Startup. However, I started it manually and it works so perfectly! In fact, updating the list is so fast, so much different than the previous version. I really love it. Thank you so much Phrosty for this great work. Oh by the way, I am running together with a demo version of Trend Micro Internet Security 2007 and it works flawlessly.

Its good to know that PG2 is blocking them but just not showing them it appears. I was almost worried there.
Strange, since the IPv4 filter only should block protocol message 6 and 17, being TCP and UDP. ICMP messages should not be blocked. The previous version (6b) also blocked only TCP and UDP messages.

yeaaah!!!!

Okay did a clean install, no PG folder was there before i installed. installed and didn't reboot, kept getting a database error message, something about having 7 and receiving 8 of something lol, don't remember exactly what it was :)

then i uninstalled, deleted the folder manually then rebooted.

i reinstalled after the reboot and rebooted immediately. only one error showed up, then once i started the program manually, it had and still has no problems. been using it for about an hour now, no errors....updates fine and is blocking protocols nicely :D

been waiting for this one for a while now!!! so glad its released!! ... even if its a RC heh

btw i'm using windows vista 32-bit with all current windows updates installed

After a few minor glitches, I successfully installed PG2.0 RC1 on WinXP Pro SP2. It is now blocking properly.

Glitches:

1. After initial installation, PG2 was very slow to open when I first tried to use it. So much so that I had 4 pg2.exe's in my Task Manager and no open copy of PG2. I killed the 4 .exes and opened it again and waited for it to load. It did open this time, although not as fast as my previous PG2 did (beta 6c).

2. When the lists I chose (p2p, ads, spy, and edu) updated initially, the edu list and p2p list didn't update because several IPs from the University of Tennessee (160.36.57.172:3125 and 160.36.57.173:3125) were blocked on Port 3125 which is the update server. I allowed these two IPs for 15 minutes and the p2p and edu lists updated properly.

BTW, this is the same problem I had with beta 6c. I had to allow the same IPs from the University of Tennessee to update the p2p list when I tried to update the lists with the edu list enabled. No problems updating if I disabled the edu list.

3. After the lists were updated, PG2 became unresponsive. I had to kill it in Task Manager to get it to quit.

4. When I tried to open it again, I got an error msg about the driver not being loaded. Was the same error msg reported in an earlier post in this thread, http://forums.phoenixlabs.org/attach...4&d=1180758822.

I waited a few minutes and opened it again and now it loads/blocks correctly.

P.S. Might want to open a new thread for those of us testing the new PG2 on an OS other than Vista. As this thread gets longer, it might be confusing for reports on XP, etc. to be in with reports on how it is working on Vista. Just my thoughts.

So am I the only one experiencing problems on XP. As in PG2 is blocking ips but they are just not showing up. I'm just mainly concerned about the dark TCP ips not being blocked. I know they are being blocked, but PG2 doesn't show it. Although when I go to certain websites PG2 blocks and lists those ips (http or port 80 or blue if you have it setup that way) without a problem.

I would like to see whats happening with other XP users. Are you guys getting dark TCP blocks? I'm trying to figure out if its a problem on my end or if its an issue with RC1. On the old 6c and 6b versions I got many blocks with those. I think I'll move back to 6c for now, because I like to be able to see everything that I block.

Edit: ok, I'm back on 6c. Instantly there are 2 dark TCP ips blocked (when I start Halite, a torrent app I use). I think one of them though was listed as a dark ICMP ip when I was testing RC1. But i don't remember fake emule servers (the other dark TCP ip blocked) being blocked on the RC1.

Incorrect - the previous version blocked all of IPv4. This one will too, soon.

Similarly I was running 9x on Vista 32. I uninstalled and manually deleted the Programs/ Peerguardian folder. Then installed PG2 RC1. Everything went ok and downloaded blocklists. I haven't needed to reboot and it has been working fine for several hours now.

hmmm .. well so far today i've had the same problems mentioned here , also while generating the list cache , usually when i add or remove a new list , it freezes. And while i was out today, im not certain what caused it , but my internet connection dropped off while running utorrent, after a reboot (without starting peerguardian) everything was fine.
Gonna switch to the utorrent ipfilter and wait for an update :P .. w00t w00t im just luv'in vista :X
