Default *Hints For Running PG2 RC 1 On Vista Successfully*

Disclaimer: Any third party code that may be suggested is use at your own risk. PhoenixLabs will not accept any responsibility for problems extending from third party code.

*Not On Vista x64?? Then Skip Down To Hint #4 With The Batch File. This Will Work On All Vistas (Not Just x64)*

Please note that SP1 breaks the ability to disable driver signature enforcement through the command prompt method listed on the PG2 RC1 test 2 download page. Please use one of the following ways to disable it instead

*Hints For Running PG2 RC 1 On Vista x64 Successfully*

Method 1 (Do not use this method for Win 7)
Ready Driver Plus: This method installs code to automate the F8 process.
**Note this method may breach the Windows Vista EULA, so if it does you have been warned.**
Ready Driver Plus Download

Method 2 (Will Work on Win 7)
a. Boot up computer using F8.

b. At menu, choose this option to boot without driver signing (near the bottom of list):

"Disable Driver Signature Enforcement".

c. Advantage: Lets you keep your security updates in place.

d. Disadvantage: You must always use F8 to boot if you choose this method of getting PG2 RC 1 Test 2 to run successfully w/Vista x64.[/i][/b]

Method 3 (Will Work on Win 7)
This method is for the Test Sign Mode in Vista. This will allow you to test sign the PG2 driver. There is a tool to help with this method so that you no longer have to manually do it. The tool is Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider (DSEO). The following link is to the tool.

3. Disable/Remove Windows Defender (optional).
It is possible that this app is causing problems with PG2 RC 1 Test 2 on Vista x64.

***Alternative to Hint #4 below can be found here:***

Linked to another thread to keep this one from being too cluttered.

*Hint #4 And Use Of The Batch File Will Work On All Vistas (Not Just x64)*

4. *Then, if you can get PG2 to run (including GUI and Task Bar icon):

a. Disable PG2 before you exit the program.

b. When you open it again, it will be disabled.

c. Update your lists with PG2 disabled.

d. Enable PG2 and check to see if it is blocking IPs in the Protection Window.

*RobrPatty has posted the code to create a batch file that you can save to your desktop that helps to get PG2 to load more quickly.
Code:
cls

tskill pg2
del /Q "C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\lists"
del /Q "C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\cache.p2b"
del /Q "C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\history.db"
"C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\pg2.exe"

cls
For Those Who Want To Use The Batch File:

Put this code into a batch file to help PG2 RC1 Test 2 load more quickly on Vista x64. This batch file would probably help all users of this version of PG2, however.

Always disable PG2 before you close it down so that it will open disabled the next time you open it. Once it is open, then repeat Steps #'s c & d.

5. If you are using µTorrent, it M*U*S*T not be running until PG2 is completely loaded! Once PG2 is fully loaded, you can manually open µTorrent.

This thread is closed so that it won't lose its value with lengthy posts like the thread for PG2 for Vista has.

You can try doing these things and report your successes/failures using these instructions in that thread, however:

PeerGuardian 2 for Windows Vista beta released

**I will modify these instructions as new solutions are found**
