If you like the menu bar item of the new version 1.5, just replace the current PeerGuardian.app with this one here. If you got an error message, while overriding the PeerGuardian.app: Open Terminal and enter:
Code:
killall pplogger && killall pploader
cubetriangle: does it work for you?

kaboon -

thanks for the updated version of the app!

I installed it however when I go to update the lists PG crashes. I did modify the lists to bluetack level 1 and 2 vs. whats originally in there.

Any thoughts?

Unhappy Re: PeerGuardian crashes in Leopard

Kaboon:

I'm having the same exact problem as the guy above. Upon getting into PeerGuardian I noticed all my blocklists were blank; upon hitting the update button I got a message saying my lists were null and that none of my lists could be updated because they supposedly didn't exist. After cleaning everything out and doing a fresh install my lists are still blank, but now when I push update, PeerGuardian simply crashes. To reiterate, I can now get PG started using your version, but my lists are completely blank; any attempt to update has either failed (giving me one of the aforementioned error messages - null or lists don't exist) or caused PG to crash. Any help with this would be thoroughly appreciated.

Here's the story (I am guessing).

Peerguardian 1.4.2 was linked to libcrypto.0.9.dylib back in Tiger when compiling. In Leopard, the correct way is to link to libcrypto.dylib (which is a symbolic link to libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib). That is because in Leopard the libcrypto.0.9.dylib is PPC only, so those with Intel Mac will crash on startup.

The solution (I have not tested extensively but it seems to work for now) is this:

Install 1.4.2 as per normal (dragging Peerguardian.app into the /Applications directory after running Peerguardian.pkg).

Call up terminal and type:

install_name_tool -change /usr/lib/libcrypto.0.9.dylib /usr/lib/libcrypto.dylib /Applications/Peerguardian.app/Contents/MacOS/Peerguardian

Done.

You are right. I fixed the Source by linking to the correct libcrypto.

If it crashs, delete "Library/Caches/xxx.qnation.PeerGuardian" and try to use the new and the old PeerGuardian.app. Or simply try boxey's solution.

Maybe this helps...
