Exclamation New Blocklists available from TBG Blocklists

Hello there,

I would like to make known the availability of our blocklists to the p2p community.

We have started our own blocklists after leaving Bluetack a few weeks back.

We are the ones who were mainly responsible for maintaining the lists at bt since ~2006, some of us for much longer - monk, cycl0n3, shadow666 and me.

At the moment we don't have our own webhost/site, SnowManUK was kind enough to host what we have in the past.

We needed to change hosts. THX to fakhir for the new hosting!

We offer several alternative lists as well as IPFilters for Emule/Azureus.

TBG Blocklists

Please give us a visit. Thx.

HvT

I'd also like to reiterate that the blocklists at Bluetack are no longer being maintained as they were before. As many of you may have noticed, the number of blocked IPs, especially in the Level 1 anti-p2p list, has changed very little over the last few weeks. Monk, HvT, Shadow, and myself did nearly all of the work in this area, as is evident by the bluetack database statistics:

Code:
B.I.S.S Internet Management System Top Hunters
Top Hunters:

	Member ID Number Hunted
	monk 385043
	Hagenvontron	58469
	firstaid	36177
	cycl0n3 36106
	damaster	21090
	luke72 13517
	shadow666	10410
	MaKaVeLi	3158
	doggfather	2488
	Moore 1562
	Sabu75 1036
	crass 792
	jab_au 710
	Kimberly	460
Note that Monk's total is about 200,000 too high due to a database glitch, but that still leaves ~185,000 edits.

I'd strongly reccomend adding the new TBG blocklists to your sources in PG2, as these are being updated daily and we are working hard to improve the quality and accuracy of these lists. You can still keep the Bluetack links in your sources if you wish, though they may block obsolete entries that we have since removed. One advantage of going independent and maintaining our own lists is that we are no longer constrained to using the Bluetack database system to add/edit ranges, which was very slow, tedious, and buggy. We hope to have a forum up and running soon where users can submit suspicious IPs for investigation or report false positives. In the meantime, feel free to ask any questions in this thread.

Exclamation Re: New Blocklists available from TBG Blocklists

New member here!

Anyway, I have a quick question about these new blocklists. I've been a PG user for about 3 years now, and love the feel of protection that it gives me when utilizing P2P services. Now that there is a new source for blocklists that sounds like it will be continually updated, will there be a way to update these lists through PeerGuardian2? I know you can just click "update" in the program itself and you will update any selected lists (through the Bluetack servers), so how will we auto-update the lists that you guys are so graciously continuing to support?

By the way, I want to thank you for all your hard work put into this service so far!

You would do it the same exact way that you currently update your list. You have to add the list URLs into PG2's blocklist manager so that it knows where to grab the list from.

But on that site they are all in ZIP format, so I have to download them first and then tell PG2 the locations on my computer of the lists that I want to use.

No you don't All you have to do is add the URL of the list into PG2. Trust me, I know what I am talking about. PG2 can still use it even as .zip format.

Ah, I did not know that it could read ZIP files in a URL. Thanks for the tip!

Oh, I completely missed that. Anyway, now I spread the word

Fine site, but I think http://blocklist1.snowmanuk.net/Lists/sources.txt should be updated.

I've been looking through the new lists descriptions. What happened to most old bluetack lists is clear, thanks.
But:
  • What happened to the templist? Did you simply drop it or is it part of another new list?
  • What happened to dshield? It's part of the new filter lists (ipfilter.dat and safepeer), but is it also in a single list?

Greets
