Why are the millitry interested in P2P networks
Hi, I have been doing some P2P network security research for a while.
I run a small new security website called insecure.org.uk
Anyway back on topic, I was doing a few tests recently when I remembered about peerguardian2 so I decided to do a few tests with peerguardian2 running.
One of the constant blocks I kept getting was from AAFES/Barracks.
Now a few days later I still have peerguardian2 running and I am now getting blocks from "HQ - 5th Signal Command" I have not used a P2P program in days so what are they looking for.
So what is there interest in P2P networks/file sharing?
I have a little blog about this on my site and forum if anyone is interested. I have also placed a link on my FREE software page to peerguardian2 hope you don’t mind. Great program by the way.

Re: Why are the millitry interested in P2P networks
You can not operate a website that deals with the topics yours does without "them"
checking you out . Also, you can not seed "subversive" stuff like 9-11, 7/7, NWO etc
related material without "them" checking you out . I've had it happen on bit-torrent,
DoD Network Center, HalliBurton, GE, and a lot of other players in the shady world.
Funny thing was that it stopped as soon as I posted a screenshot of my logs somewhere :)
Furthermore, this URL :
Code:
http://insecure.org/
is the home of "Nmap" the Rolls-Royce of net-scanners.
The US military uses Nmap, as does the NSA and probably all other intelligence services
in the world . And then your little websites suddenly turns up on their radar, dealing with
subjects like state-hacking and surveillance . How could they not have to check it out ?

What makes you think Limewire would be any different ?
Could be many reasons why you get blocked connections for the military. I doubt anyone but the people in the military could tell you what they are really doing.

Trust me to pick a name so similar to this, I didn’t give that a thought. :)
Maybe I’m just paranoid, I knew they couldn’t be thinking that terrorists or someone would be using P2P networks to communicate, or would they.
Share their communications in the open, make up wild filenames that only they know, and share via P2P. It’s just possible you know lol. Ok now I’m being paranoid and dreaming up conspiracy theories.

I don’t doubt that for a minute, you’re probably correct about that. But that doesn’t explain the HQ-5th Signal Command that was attempting connection with my computer days later?
I goggled HQ-5th Signal Command -

The 5th Signal Command is a European-based tactical and strategic communications organization of the United States Army specializing in command and control which supports theater-limited, joint-forces, and combined forces activities.

That doesn’t sound like any normal army guy looking for porn to me.
