Default Alliance Beta 1.0.8b 1047

https://sourceforge.net/projects/all.../topic/3404716

Quote:
The 1.0.7 Beta series has been sent to Maciek for code verification. We’re not sure how long it will take him to look through the code or when it will be merged with the official branch so we decided to push ahead with the 1.0.8 beta series. This version brings some much needed optimizations, fixes, and features.

Changelog

Changed: AutoUpgrade turned on between Betas This will only be on for people using this beta and future betas. If you are using an old beta please manually download this version.

Fixed bug: Rare DNS names reset to IP. Sometimes Alliance was resetting hostnames to IP and it should be more aware of IP->DNS changes made by your friends.

Changed: Alliance doesn't remove hashes for unplugged (external USB) drives in Windows. Alliance doesn't delete hashes if you forgot to plug USB drives, be aware that your drives should have fixed drive letter.

Removed: JDic library. I don’t know if we will bring it back or not. JDic was used for the Tray support on Mac since Java 1.6 wasn’t used by default at the time. Bastvera feels the Beta should work on Mac but it needs to be confirmed by Mac users. If problems arise we will bring Jdick back or find a better solution.

Changed: Add group dialog window. Using the group system when adding a new folder is a little less confusing now. When adding a new folder you will have a choice between “Public” and “Private”. If Private is selected you will then type in a group name you wish to use for it. Then to give people access to that folder simply right mouse click on their name in your friends list and click “edit group”. There you will have to type in the same group name that you gave your folder.

Unload User Interface when pressing X on the top right of Alliance This reduces Alliance's ram use greatly while still allowing Alliance to function as it always has. It should use around 35,000K to 37,000K when in this mode. Keep in mind chat sounds will not work when GUI is unloaded.

.Alliance external file support Similar to .torrent and .xdcc, .Alliance files allow you to create easy links to your content. What sets .Alliance files apart from torrents is that Alliance files do not contain any ips, trackers, file names, or sensitive info. All they contain is your friend token (a token that’s randomly generated when you add a friend) and the file hash. With that said Alliance files are useless unless you’re friends with the person sharing them. For example if I posted a .alliance file on here, non of you would be able to get that file unless you where my friend. If you happened to have a friend with the same token as me in your network, Alliance would attempt to search for that file hash in their client. If nothing is found it stops.

.Alliance files are binary so they can be posted on sites, e-mails..etc and be downloaded. We may open this up to “copy and paste” links later on. This is all experimental so use at your own risk.

You can create an .Alliance file by browsing your own files and right mouse clicking on one. Selecting “Create link on hdd” and picking a location to save it at will make the file. Then simply upload it somewhere.

All new beta's will be hosted on our Beta SVN. All stable versions approved by Maciek will be hosted on here. Currently v1.0.6 is the latest (lol)
